FROM SILENCE TO LANGUAGE
For years, the story existed without the words to fully name it.
Writing My Teacher Called It Love became a way to return to the experience with the understanding that was not available to the child who lived it.
The story is told through memory—through what she believed, what she could not yet recognize, and what became clear only with time.
By giving language to what happened, Saleema tells the story on her own terms and allows readers to see how grooming can be mistaken for care, protection, and love.
What she could not name then,
she can speak clearly now.
